Self portrait… again! I'm really bad at drawing people, since I normally don't care what my characters exactly look like, as long as they can visualize what I want to express with my image. So, portraying real people is quite a challenge for me. But I also think it is incredibly helpful for improving, because it forces me to actually look how facial features look like, and not just draw how I think how it might look good.
I worked as close to my crappy webcam picture as I could without actually tracing or copying anything, even though I was very tempted at times! The bad quality of the original image actually really helped me, as the overexposure made it easier to see lights and shadows
After looking at it for 4 or 5 hours or so, I can't really tell how much it looks like me, but I think something is wrong with the lips. But I can't really tell what it is. I have less fluffy hair in reality (it's completely straight), but I'll count that as my artistic licence. I'm just not sure about the background texture, but could not find something better to fill the void.
By the way, drawing self portraits is unhealthy - it forces you to face all your flaws… same thing with comparing one's facial features with those of models for the sake of studying facial anatomy. I'm truly depressed now.
Anyway, I think I'm getting faster at drawing - I guess that's a good thing, even if I'm not getting better as fast as I'd like to? I would, however, also like to find something to draw something again which holds my interest for longer than a couple of hours!

Very pretty, from the head tilt and lighting to the face's curves.
