Temperate Forest by Lyraina Temperate Forest by Lyraina
It's about time to do some environments from #Weekly-Environment again! Here's my attempt at painting a temperate forest. I tried to play with light to create a more interesting look, which is something I would like to learn. I still didn't succeed in achieving a more finished, polished look, but I did push it through at least one "don't know how to go on" hurdle :)

Edit: Made it a bit lighter in some parts! Also uploaded a bigger file.

Great job on this! The whole painting is very well done but the lighting is superb. You seem to have a very solid understanding of light and the way that it functions. Though, as I think another Deviant mentioned bellow, adding a few brighter patches of sky peaking through the tree tops would add another layer of realism. The texture of the leaves on the forest floor is very well done. You've also managed to create a great sense of depth. Perhaps it's not perfect. But still very well done. Now, if I can just learn to paint environments as well as you do, I'll be happy. :)

First I'll have you know, this is one gorgeous piece. It really gives me a good impression of what a forest looks like, due to the visibility of the background depth, unlike other pieces I've seen where the perspective is different and you lose track of the continuity of the conceptual view. I congratulate you, it's impressive.

But apart from that, I would like to ask for your permission for this wonderful piece to be used as a background for a quote from one of my most recent stories, which is still in progress. Of course you will be given your due credit for the drawing, and the link will be included in the description to the original deviation.

Thank you for the kind words! :)

What is the story about? And I assume you are going to publish it on dA (non-commercially)?

Non-commerically, of course. For now, I plan to keep my artwork and literature as a hobby, and not for profit-making purposes.

As for the story, I will not begin uploading the chapters until I'm halfway through the first part, but I really would like giving a sneak peek to the character's perspectives out of these certain quotes.

Oh, and you're very welcome about the critique. It's quite well deserved.

Considering you "don't know how to go on", at least once, you did a fantastic job! Lighting, color, balance, it's all good!
